Malawian gets Queen Elizabeth II recognition

Pashello Charitable Trust executive director Felia Malola has been nominated by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth  II of the United Kingdom as one of the inspirational volunteers across Commonwealth nations who have made a difference in their communities and beyond.

Speaking in an interview on Thursday, Malola said the trust, located in Chikwawa, supports orphans and vulnerable children, people with disabilities, poor women, the elderly and also provides bursaries to needy learners.

She said: “The recognition from her Majesty Queen Elizabeth is quite inspiring. I did not expect this to happen in my lifetime, but I owe that to the Almighty God for His love.

“At the trust, we provide two meals to 100 orphans and vulnerable children every day. We provide wheelchairs to people with disabilities and bursaries to needy learners.”

Malola also said as a family, she also looks after two children whose mother died soon after giving birth.

She thanked people and organisations who have been donating items and money to the trust, saying their support had made a difference to the beneficiaries’ lives.

Pashello Charitable Trust was registered in 2011 to uplift disadvantaged people’s lives in the country.

Malola, who others describe as a strong character with a generous heart, was born on December 6 1969 and comes from Mangawa Village, Traditional Authority Ngabu in Chikwawa District.

She says she will continue advocating for children’s rights and supporting orphans and vulnerable children in the country. n
